3 days internship

Tue Mar 10, 2009, 10:35 PM
Hi everybody

Yeah I know I haven't uploaded anything this days ..coff..months..coff.. but school keeps me quite busy. Still something pretty cool happened yesterday.
This industrial designer from the U.K. named Duncan Wilson is coming to Mexico; he is one of those big shot guys in the design world. He's planning this internship about product design. The thing is he only wanted certain students to be at this internship, meaning only really good ones. So they picked up the best designers from the school, and yeah I was included in the hot smoking list; guess I DID something good after all these years. When they handed me my invitation I felt like a 10 year old boy opening it's first Nintendo 64, man, I was 3 steps to jump like a moron, then again, I may have done it, but simply can't remember. Anyway I'll post whatever we do on this internship.

Wish me luck.

Deviously deviant deviantic deviated text

Fri Jun 29, 2007, 11:42 PM
Ok, I decided to make my own list, like the one Giger has on its web site. It's not the best, it's not what you should do; if you don't like it, well, I can't deal with that. It's my way of looking at things, at least some things. Here it goes:

This is the Super-upi-dupi-lupy-hyper-ultra-mega-yakety-wow list published by the Department of Ecouragement at the Stepdeisgn offices to help yourself in the path of art and design.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

1) Don't pretend to know everything, that is the first step to ignorance.

2) Buy yourself books and magazines about design, art, drawing, history etc. Knowledge can be gathered from different sources.

3) Explore your thoughts and dreams

4) Play a musical instrument.

5) Take those rusty blocks named books and read them!

6) When out of ideas, draw things from you surroundings

7) See movies, pay attention to the extra featurettes when they include art and design galleries or documentaries.

8) Buy a sketchbook and fill it with everything you can.

9) Never let your work unfinished. If it sucks try again.

10) Experiment with materials.

11) Go easy on the TV.

12) Hear music. If possible, explore groups and music genres you don't know.

13) Visit museums, expos, conventions, etc.

14) Buy art if you can afford it. (no need to buy Piccasos)

15) Practice as much as you can.

16) Go to ballet, theatre, etc.

17) Take risks and chances.

18) Eat mexican food. (why would this help?)

19) Pay attention to the work of others, you can also learn from them.

20) Enter contests. It builds your line of work.

21) Push yourself to achive new things.

22) Be polite.

23) Prepare yourself 'cause trying to be the best is not an easy task.

24) Criticise your work.

25) Behave yourself when you make comments about others people work.

26) Try everything until you find your own style and technique.

27) Get out with you family.

28) Don't kill me for my english.

29) Travel.

30) Play videogames, yup. Don't make yourself addict but play them. Remember, designers participate in the creation of them so pay attention to the designs. If the game contains galleries be sure to explore them.

31) Don't be a moron.

32) Write down your ideas. Memory can be a problem sometimes.

33) Try to avoid junk food.

34) Build things. It gives an extra boost to your imagination as well as your abilities.

35) Stop spending money in useless stuff.

36) Don't be a lazy bum and help at home.

37) At least once in your life run naked in public. (ok, this is optional...)

38) Be nice with the people and respect the old fellas.

39) Your workspace should be a free space. Have it your way.

40) Love the animals or at least treat them nicely.

41) Never expect a miracle.

42) Visit your friends.

43) Make the unexpected.

44) Do not run into the mud, unless you expect to fall.

45) Try scuba diving.

46) Before believing in anything, believe in yorself.

47) If you are a guy don't you even dare to insult a woman unless it really reaLLY REALLY deserves it.

48) Never let anyone to tell you that you can't do something.

49) Eat your veggies.

50) Have fun in the way.

OPEN FOR REQUESTS! FREE! NO CHARGE AT ALL! DID I MENTIONED IT 'S FREE?, WHATEVER YOU WANT. I AIN'T THAT GOOD BUT I'LL TRY MY BEST IF SOMEONE ASKS FOR A REQUEST.

You know, I cannot understand why everytime I scan something, my work seems a little different, oh well, who knows. Guess I suck at scanning.

FOR THOSE WHO ASPIRE BEING ARTISTS OR DESIGNERS OR WHATEVER HERE ARE SOME TIPS

(Extracted From Giger's offcial web site on June 2, 2007. Credit them, NOT me)

1) Take whatever courses you find the most interesting.

2) Study closely the work of the Old Masters.

3) Stop making art that originates only from your own imagination.

4) Stay with one technique until you perfect it.

5) On any given day, always be in the middle of reading a book. When you finish one, start the next. Fiction, nonfiction, biographies, autobiographies, history, science, psychology, or how to build a kite. Anything but go easy on the comic books.

6) Buy and read the first 6 pages of newspaper every day and also the editorial commentaries. Skip the entertainment section. Su Doku is fine. Do the crossword puzzle.

7) Fill up a sketchbook every month with pen or pencil drawings of the world around you, not from your imagination.

8) Buy a book on figure drawing. It's the only art book you will ever need.

9) Until you can draw an accurate portrait of someone, you don’t know how to draw.

10) Stay away from the airbrush. You'll never master it, hardly anyone ever has.

11) Visit every museum in your city. Often, until you have seen everything in it. Every kind of museum. Not only the art museums but, of course, those as well.

12) Forget about contemporary art by living artists, at least for the next few years.

13) Stay away from most art galleries. Go to art auctions. That's where the real action is.

14) Learn to play chess.

15) Take a business course.

16) Talk to you mother or father at least once a week.

17) Stop going to the movies until you have rented and seen every film on this list.
[link]

18) Do not watch television unless it’s the news or documentaries.

19) Do not use an Ipod.

20) No video games, either.

21) Learn a foreign language.

22) Learn to cook.

23) Spend 8 hours in a hospital emergency room.

24) Save up money so you can travel to a foreign country within the next five years.

25) Do not litter.

26) Avoid politically correct people.

27) Vote in every election or never dare to utter a political opinion. You are not entitled to one.

28) Buy a digital camera and take photos every day.

29) If you see nothing interesting to photograph, you will never be a good artist. Keep only one photo of every ten you take. Delete the rest. It will force you to learn how to edit the garbage from your life, to make choices, to recognize what has real value and what is superficial.

30) Visit an old age home.

31) Listen to classical music and jazz. If you are unable to appreciate it at least as much as contemporary music, you lack the sensitivity to develop into an artist of any real depth.

32) Go to the ballet. Classical or Modern, it doesn't matter. It will teach you to appreciate physical grace and the relationship between sound and movement.

33) Wake up every morning no later than 8 AM, regardless of what time you went to sleep.

34) Learn to play a musical instrument.

35) Learn to swim.

36) Keep your word.

37) Never explain your art. People who ask you to do so are idiots.

38) Never explain yourself. Better yet, never do anything that will, later, require you to explain yourself or to say you're sorry.

39) Always use spell check.

40) Stop aspiring and start doing.

Now go and become an artist or whatever.
